BoeingX represents the future of aerospace transportation by combining the powers of Boeing Aerospace and Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX).

PRESS RELEASE:

CHICAGO, IL., April 1, 2022 — Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) announced their intention to merge and form a new entity entitled BoeingX. The new organization will maintain its aerospace operations with headquarters in Chicago while space operations transitions to Boca Chica (“Starbase”), Texas. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will continue to lead the SpaceX team while overseeing the Boeing space projects like the powerful Space Launch System.

“This new merger will bring together the powers of Boeing with the engineering vision of SpaceX to create the leading aerospace and deep space transportation sectors”, said Boeing CEO David Calhoun. “Having a purpose driven leader like Elon at the helm will take the Boeing space program further and faster than we could have done so on our own.”

“So, yeah, I’m excited for this new venture in my career and opportunity for our two staffs to join. I’m sure they will have some good ideas to combine with what we are doing here at SpaceX as well as our visionary plans for life on Mars”, said SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said, “This represents a pivotal moment the United States’ march toward outer space. These two industry titans joining teams, like the Starship and SLS systems, create the most powerful force in modern rocketry and space exploration. NASA is proud to support this merger and announcement.”

SpaceX will immediately adopt the Boeing naming conventions for its fleet of Falcon rockets including the Falcon cargo transport designated as the Falcon 919, the Falcon crew transport as Falcon 929, Falcon satellite deployment transport as the Falcon 939, and the Falcon heavy as the Falcon 979. Starship’s future designation has not been identified at press time.

The merger is expected to complete April 20, 2022 in a signing ceremony to take place at Starbase in preparation for the launch of Starship on its maiden voyage around the globe.
